HECTIC ACTIVITY OF SPINE COMMITTEE AT WFNS CONFERENCE IN BOSTON
1. For the first time a Cadaver Workshop was organized Sunday, the 30th August, 2009 in Boston. The Course was held at Hynes Convention Centre. There were six cadavers. All the faculty members attended the workshop and completed the assigned work much to the delight of attending delegates.
The techniques demonstrated on cadavers were Cervical corpectomy and fixation with expandable cage, Occiput C1 & C2 stabilization, Far out lateral approach to lumbar disc, Cervical discoplasty etc.
In the end the delegates were given free access to cadavers to practice any technique with teachers giving them support. The workshop conducted from 8.00 a.m. till 5.00 p.m. with all delegates in attention till the end.
The Spine Committee also organized an Interactive Session on Fusion or Arthroplasty following cervical discoidectomy with 3 speakers on either side. The session was fought very actively with attending participants culminating in the end with a vote from the audience on the choice of treatment.
2. The Spine Committee Symposium on Emerging Technologies in the management of Lumbar Instability held in a 500 capacity Hall saw lot of attendees standing and watching in absence of more chairs. Dr. George Dohrman alongwith Dr Abbas Amirjamshidi did excellent job of conducting the symposium. For want of more time each speaker was given 10 minutes to speak with enough time given to audience for lively discussion.
3. The Chairman also attended the meeting called by the Incoming President – Dr. Peter Black to discuss plans for the next 4 years.
4. The Chairman was keen to see each committee holding full fledged conferences or cadaver courses to promote the science in each discipline.
5. The Committee meeting was held over lunch at Loue’s Steak House with large number of committee members attending the meeting |
