In the division of Neuro Spinal surgery at L.T.M. Hospital in Mumbai, a Bone Bank has been established. The principle used is to use a scaffold sterilised by ethylene oxide sterilisation to be replaced by creeping substitution. It has enough strength to support the body weight in lumbar interbody fusion so that the patient can be mobile after three or four days. The bone is extensively used in anterior cervical fusions and in dorso lumbar injuries. The bank has been functioning for the past fifteen years.
